A 2nd story addition and full interior remodel of the existing one-story bungalow in Central Austin including a new detached garage with ADU above.  It was important to the owners to stay in keeping with the character of the original house and neighborhood, so the addition was intentionally set back from the street.  The kitchen was relocated and expanded to have more of a presence in the house, and a larger family room was added with large windows overlooking the backyard.  A protected tree in the middle of the lot was initially a design challenge, but with some well-placed windows, became the focal point of a new reading nook and stair up to a new primary suite, bringing great views and natural light into the center of the home while not sacrificing privacy.
